Botswana is a land of unrivalled safari destinations with diverse landscapes offering unique game-viewing opportunities. From the pristine Okavango Delta where mokoros glide silently between the reeds, hippos grunt deep in the transparent water, to the wide slow Chobe River where the ancients lie baring their teeth and elephants cavort. Savuti with rugged savannas beneath arching baobabs stretches on one side to the marshlands of Linyanti where 150 years ago, to the astonishment of the Makalolo tribespeople, David Livingstone emerged from the South having crossed the Kalahari Desert and the central Kalahari, home to the friendliest Meerkats on the planet and the beautiful little people – the Bushmen. The San is the collective term used to describe an ancient, indigenous collection of Southern African hunter-gatherers. Comprising several sub-groups, the San people have roamed the African continent as a distinct ethnic group for around 150 000 years. This makes them one of the oldest people on Earth — a testament to their unique way of life and its long-lived success. Then the extraordinary lunar-Esque landscapes of the Makgadikgadi pans are ancient and timeless, stretching out to the horizon under an ocean of stars and hosting a range of wildlife in spite of the intense heat and barren salt pans.

You will find some of the most stunning scenery, specially adapted desert wildlife, and the proud Ovahimba people in Kaokoland and Damaraland. And, in rich contrast, the dense forests of the Zambezi region, part of the KAZA Trans-frontier National Park create the Northern border.
